Mancini moved heaven and earth to sign his fellow compatriot last summer, when he paid over £20million to take the youngster from his former club Internazionale.
Balotelli has hit the headlines for his crazy off-field antics since being in England, but he looks more settled this season and has shown glimpses of his brilliance.
After hitting a brace in the 6-1 drubbing of rivals and champions United at Old Trafford, Mancini even claimed the striker was amongst the best five players in the world.
“We can put him in the top five players in the world,” he said. "He is young and at his age he can make some mistakes. But as a player he is incredible.
"I hope the day arrives for Mario he changes his mind completely. Because when he does that he will become one of the best three players in the world, like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."
